2017 Fall Mindful Boston Newsletter

2017 Fall Mindful Boston Newsletter

Happy Holidays!  Thanks for participating in Mindful Boston's administration this year. This is the newsletter about what has happened at MiBo during the fall.  Scroll to the end for upcoming events.

Seasonal Topic: Mindful Holidays

There are over a dozen different holidays celebrated between Nov 1st and Jan 1st each year. Many of them have the underlying themes of love, light, and connection in the face of the coming coldness.

Whichever of these holidays are a part of your fall, I wish you the joy that comes with authentic celebration of the love between us humans.

And as the guiding teacher of Mindful Boston, I offer a reminder to you: take care of your energy levels.  The term "self care" is becoming a buzz word that is losing its meaning these days.  And yet, as a meditation teacher, I do want to point to the truth underneath the buzz-  you need to take care of yourself in the face of the demands of your life.  On an airplane, the safety instructions include "put the oxygen mask on yourself before you put it on another."  This an an important safety concern for many areas of our lives.

Have a safe and caring December. I hope to see you at the Administrative Overview Meeting on January 21st.  Please let me know if you are attending by RSVP at the Operators Meetup
Kind regards,
Gena Bean

Successful Events at Mindful Boston this fall

The director of The Mel King Institute, Shirronda Almeida, led our group in a chair yoga flow for building stress resilience.

On November 3rd 2017, Mindful Boston offered the Bypassing Burnout retreat day in collaboration with our partner organization, the Mel King Institute. The next Bypassing Burnout event is scheduled for March.  We'd love to have you join us!

These are some pictures from the workshop.  Images include: Gena Bean preparing for students to enter, a page from our workbook that one student colored in beautifully, mindfully eating oranges, Shirronda's yoga session.

In addition to Bypassing Burnout, our fall listings included three Community Meditation Nights at the Adidas Boston Marathon Runbase, and a sold-out Meditation Toolbox course in Cambridge.

Upcoming Events

It's good to note that Mindful Boston doesn't schedule events for Decembers since most people are too busy to add meditations to their calendars.
New Year's resolution time in January is the focal point of our yearly Calendar.
The following events have not yet been announced to the public.
As members, you get an advanced overview.

  • Community Meditation Nights are scheduled for January 10 at the Adidas Runbase and then also January 24th at the Mel King Institute.
  • The Meditation Toolbox is scheduled to start on January 28th, six Sundays in Cambridge. It is likely to sell out again, register early.
  • Info Session about the Mindful Boston organizational structure and business plan is scheduled for January 21st at 5:30pm.

Giving Meditation Classes as a Gift

You can pay for the tuition to the Meditation Toolbox course and give it as a gift.  The price for the six Sunday classes is $150.  Start date is Jan 28, end date March 4.  Location is Central Square Cambridge.  The gift certificate itself is a pdf that you can print.
