Sunday News
Hello
Since a couple of new folks have signed up for the Sunday News email, I thought I’d clarify the studio’s subscription levels during this week’s installment.
Nonlinear
Because Mindful Boston promotes concentric circles of practice, the subscription tiers are different than at other organizations. So, even long-term subscribers could probably use a refresher this week.
The Key
The core, or keystone, General Membership is for active participants at our studio.
During those times when it’s sluggish getting onto your meditation seat, you have accountability-buddies. There’s nothing better for one’s practice than getting together on zoom calls and/or Interpersonal Mindfulness Labs at the studio in Cambridge.
For those times when you can’t attend events, you’ll also have a number of ways to stay in the loop of practice. The quarterly members’ Reviewbook online includes recordings of guided meditations and Lab Notes (meeting minutes) about what’s been happening in our studio’s laboratory experiments.
Laboratory?
Experiential learning only happens when you experience things first hand. At our studio, we inquire into: “How does a human live fully?”
Since that shows up differently for each human, there’s no one right answer. But, to inquire into the individual answer(s) of the moment(s), our studio offers a specific form of hands-on learning that I’ve come to call our mindfulness Lab Work.
We engage in a type of conversation that is uncommon. We create a place to talk about that which is not usually talked about. And we do things that are uncommon too- sit together in silent good company.
Higher Investment / Lower Investment
To be actively engaging in the artform of mindfulness takes a higher investment level. Energy, time, gumption, and sometimes money are components of engaging fully in this contemplative work.
Not everyone is at a place where those resources are at hand.
Therefore, there is a lower “Guest Pass” subscription tier at Mindful Boston. Subscribers to the Guest Pass can follow along with the news of the studio without investing fully. The Guest Pass is for people who are interested in knowing about what’s happening, but are not (yet) in a place to dive in to the experiences.
Ebb And Flow
It is fine to jump in, and jump out.
The studio plan here at Mindful Boston allows for ebb and flow within a regular practice. An ebb in February can become a flow during March, if your mind-state can allow for that.
Our studio offers:
An infrastructure for experiencing mind-state-expansion(s), over time, sustainably.
See You There?
There is an event coming up that everyone on the Guest Pass and on the General Membership is encouraged to attend, if you can. A nonprofit organization called Sacred Threads is hosting me to lead a Mindfulness Tea workshop.
Thursday, January 25th 2024, 5pm-6pm
Sacred Threads Center: 71 Walnut Park, Newton, MA 02458
Since they are providing tea and snacks, there is a $20 fee for tickets. If a discount helps you to attend, they are offering Mindful Boston subscribers a discount code. When you register at their website, use the code: MINDFULNESS at checkout for $5 off your ticket. Please register before Monday to give us a headcount.
Happy Sunday.
Take care,
Gena Bean
