Bringing what you are to the table
Last week I taught a classroom at a retreat center founded by Catholic nuns.
In order to honor the lineage of the place, I mapped out a diagram of contemplative arts practices that demonstrated my current understanding of the relationship between the secular mindfulness practice that I teach and the practice of prayer. It was a rich conversation.
Through reflection on how that event unfolded, I ended up at this Sunday News’ inquiry:
How do each of us honor the lineages that formed us?
It’s an inquiry that can get complex.
One’s lineage can include religions and family structures and thought systems and even workplaces with long histories. These histories do include abuses of power. Every human system I’ve heard of includes shady characters that game the system for personal ambition/gain rather than the healing of human hearts.
And yet we are woven from our experiences.
How do we honor the wholesome, that which nourished us, and brought us through to where we are now?
I’m looking forward to hearing your thoughts.
Our next guest pass free webinar will be on Feb 4th. If you have upgraded to the General Membership, you’re welcome to the office for an in-person discussion on Feb 11th.
See you there.
Take care,
