it ain't cocaine

it ain't cocaine

I've been reading a sober substack called the Small Bow.  Their checkins had a theme last week: 'why cocaine?' I recommend the Small Bow, I'm grateful that it's doing its thing.

As I read those checkins, I had the thought, "wow, mindfulness is the opposite of cocaine."

As I read those checkins, I had the thought, "wow, mindfulness is the opposite of cocaine."

Last week, I mentioned that Sunada and I offer mindfulness coaching. Least you were thinking of signing up for that, here's some additional info ( a caveat?) about what that means.

Here's three transparently harder items of note about mindfulness coaching:

  • Mindfulness doesn’t necessarily make you better at your job.
  • Mindfulness doesn't necessarily make you feel good. It brings you closer to truths even when those truths are unpleasant.
  • Mindfulness sometimes breaks your heart.

And here's three amazing items of note, the other side of the coin:

  • Mindfulness makes you better at choosing a job that is in alignment with your values.
  • Mindfulness shows you truths.  No sugar coating. This means that it gives you the capacity to make your decisions based on reality instead of on hopes.  This could make you better at some jobs, depending on the job.
  • Mindfulness sometimes breaks your heart. And wise people understand that a certain type of broken heartedness is required for living fully.

That’s your dose of uncomfortable truth for this Sunday’s News…!
This email was the Tier 1 introduction to our studio’s weekly theme.

As always, there is a second Tier 2 email that goes deeper into this topic. Join the paid membership if you are interested in unpacking these topics further with us.

Hope to see you in the studio, (there’s a members’ lab today at 3pm)
