Sparkle

And Glimmer
Sparkle

Here in the greater Boston area, there’s plenty of snow.
It can be a doldrum to ignore. …or to notice!

The sunlight, moonlight, and even streetlights can ignite rainbows in the ice crystals within the snow.

For a Sunday Pause, you might be present with any of the places you see a sparkle today.

If you are not in Boston, but you do drink coffee… one place I look for sparkles is in the coffee grounds from a french-press.

Being present with beautiful sparkles could be a simple “Sunday Pause” of mindfulness, and ALSO, if you want to go deeper, there’s a related term from Polyvagal Theory: Glimmers.

I researched an article from the Newport Institute that says:

The term “glimmers” was coined by Deb Dana, a licensed clinical social worker who specializes in complex trauma. In her 2018 book, The Polyvagal Theory in Therapy, Dana notes that glimmers aren’t grand experiences. On the contrary, she says, “They’re micro moments that begin to shape our system in very gentle ways.”

I’ll dive deeper into mindfulness+glimmers, and offer you a practice, in today’s Members’ Laboratory email.

Always feel free to use the comments section. I’d love to hear about your favorite sparkles and what you experience when/if you can turn them into glimmers.

Take care,
Gena
