That which yokes
yoke1 /yōk/ noun
a wooden crosspiece that is fastened over the necks of two animals and attached to the plow or cart that they are to pull.
Did you know that the word yoga has similar roots to the word yoke?
During yoga teacher training, I was taught that a yogi yokes their mind, body and spirit together.
In farming, animals are yoked in order to more effectively and powerfully plow a field. Yogis, who are clearing the field of consciousness, need all parts of the self, including the animal self, to be working together harmoniously with the same goals.
In the 601 email, I mentioned the definitions of tethering. Do you see why I think of this concept of yogic yoking as the next step in that journey?
Our attention is being scattered and sold.
It’s time to shift gears and be in charge of where our attention goes and what it is used for. Mindfulness meditation is one of the tools we have for shifting gears.

This topic will inform our focusing techniques at the studio MBZ1’s Spring Retreat. I will offer a free meditation class on Friday night May 2nd for the general public. And then, for our Members Only Saturday deep dive… we get a longer form practice on Saturday May 3rd. My plan is Yoga Nidra, deep rest.
