What to bring for the MBZ1 weekend retreat
My suggestions for this weekend, if you're coming
by Gena Bean
Hello members!
This email for for folks who are joining us in Gloucester tonight and/or tomorrow. If you can’t make it, we’ll miss you!
Optional items that you might want to bring:
- Yoga mat and/or beach towels.
Surprisingly, beach towels can work better than a yoga mat for our more relaxed practices. - Yoga bolster, if you have one. Eye pillow, if you have one. Comfy blankie, if that will make you happy during practice time.
- Slippers, or an extra pair of warm socks.
- Since we have the option to turn off our phones, you might want an alarm clock if you are staying overnight.
- Since we have the option to turn off our phones, you might want to give your emergency contact folks the number for the landline at the inn— 978-283-1198
- Beach gear, swim trunks.
- Rain gear, or an open mind to getting wet.
- If you are staying overnight: toiletries, clothes, any overnight necessities.
- Treats. Rooms at the inn have a mini fridge and a microwave.
- No wine/beer pls, this retreat has an intention towards reduced intoxicant use as we move towards sobriety in our mindfulness practices.
- There are plenty of cups at the inn, but if you prefer a bottle for your water, bring one.
Traveling
The retreat is at:
Blue Shutters Beachside Inn 1 Nautilus Rd, Gloucester, MA 01930
It’s about one hour to drive from Boston. There is a large parking lot right in front.
You can talk to the inn owners by calling 978-283-1198 to ask them any questions about traveling.
There is a commuter rail train stop within a mile of the inn. If you are hearty, it’s technically walkable. But it’s probably better to get the local taxi or Lift for a ride.
Friday’s Events
If you are attending tonight, Friday 5/1/26,
here’s your schedule
Arrive around 5:30-ish tonight if you're coming to the Members’ Only chicken soup snacks. (Soup, like everything, is optional.)
Saturday
If you are attending tomorrow, Saturday 5/2/26
Arrive by 9am
Coffee (maybe muffins? egg?)
There is no late entry for the Saturday practice. Make sure to arrive on time.10am- 12pm
Guided meditation. Extended practice time.12pm: Official end of our retreat.
The afternoon can be an open schedule. You have the freedom to explore Gloucester’s beaches, nap, join the group for lunch at the Seaport Grill, or simply end your day early.
Saturday lunch note:Even though lunch is not officially included in the retreat, we have tentative reservations at the Seaport Grill for those who are interested in a restaurant lunch. It’s expensive, but worth it. Plan for $50-$70 per person, depending on what you order. Have a look at their menu and decide if you want to RSVP to have lunch with our group. It’s arguably the best fish around.
See you soon!
