approaching darkness
I debated which title to put on this Sunday’s article. “Approaching the darkness” or “the approaching darkness” both had appealing features, yet very different meanings. In the end, I simply deleted the “the” so that it’s more open to interpretation.
The topic of discussion is seasonal awareness with acceptance, and without necessarily judging the shift of light and dark. There’s a common tendency to fear the darkness and seek the light. And yet… I have experienced healing darkness, and I have experienced light so bright that it gets harmful.

After recently observing harvest celebrations like Thanksgiving, Black Friday, and the Black Friday MBZ1 retreat, today I will bundle up and sit outside in the lengthening December shadows. As pictured above, I’ll have cup of tea beside me.
When the weather is colder and the daylight is shorter, I like to meditate upon being in alignment with the season of hibernation.
If you’d like, use the comments section of this article to tell me any seasonal meditations that you have.
Take care,
-Gena
